Burmatex^® fits award winning Scottish Crime Campus

Extensive installations of Burmatex^® high quality carpet tiles feature within the Scottish Crime Campus, winner of the Regional Award for Corporate Workplace, 2014. Recognised by the British Council for Offices (BCO) this purpose built facility is able to accommodate over 1,200 staff, providing a single location for multiple law enforcement agencies. The Scottish Crime Campus was funded by the Scottish Government and designed by Ryder Architecture and BMJ Architects.

With the award focusing not only on base build but also on fit out, Burmatex^® carpet tiles have been used to create an active, flowing scheme throughout the spacious building. The project uses two Burmatex^® products – strands and a bespoke cut pile product – in various combinations for different spaces.

Using the bright palette of the strands range along with complementary bold bespoke product colours, the multiple meeting rooms feature a central installation of strands sixty in an offset monolithic design, with a matching colour cut pile border. The different meeting rooms each use a single colour – with the bold shades of strands pink, lime and aqua creating engaging, vibrant and award winning work spaces.

The expansive offices across the campus use a dark bespoke carpet tile background with highlights from the bespoke cut pile and strands products running along the corridors throughout the building. Using carpet tiles to distinguish the connecting corridors presents a simple way of maintaining the buildings purpose to facilitate communication. The use of various focus highlight colours along with a grey cut pile insert create a lively scheme, introducing a signature colour into each office.

In both the initial build and constant running of the campus this purpose built facility presents sustainable design as a key consideration. The materials and services specified focus on a 40% reduction in the levels of CO2 produced during the buildings usable life (compared to normal building regulations). The use of heavy contract suitable Burmatex^® carpet tiles, with their 10 year guarantee, reduces the need for replacements.

Currently holding the 2014 Corporate Workplace award for the Scottish Region, the Scottish Crime Campus will be entered against the other regional winners later this month, with the BCO awards celebrating exceptional office development nationally.
