FIRST FRIDAY FLOORING FAVOURITES | MAY 2018
This months flooring favourites is influenced by travel up and down the UK, from Glasgow to Birmingham and a few stops in between. It enjoys the contrast between the right angles of squares and rectangles (albeit installed in fluid wave like patterns!) and the impermanence of light reflections cast on the floor of the Glasgow School of Art reception area. Floor inspiration doesn't have to be permanent. It can come in the form of light or shadow cast at a particular moment in time, or even as a view from above when looking down at a temporary exhibition piece. Our floorscape changes as we move about our daily lives, from location to location, so why not embrace change when we design an installation for a building. Try introducing slight shifts in installation method, carpet pattern or colour as you move through an interior. The transitions can help to zone areas without having a hard line of change and add interest for visitors and employees alike.
