"Proportion to be equal thirds, 33.33%, 1/3"

The descriptions we use to define proportion are so varied...

Here at burmatex, a customer will often give the task of creating a scheme using a set breakdown of products. The reasons for this are related to aesthetics, budget, or both. When we have to think along these lines, it can initially feel restricting, but then we get more creative!

We use a 9 tile x 9 tile area (20.25 square metres) here and an equal proportion of three colours, t0 show varied options for using one third each of dark, medium and light.

Basic and bold, simple thirds.

Strips of single tiles, repeating.

Strips graduating dark to light.

Nine-tile module, repeated and rotated.

Random pixels create an all-over effect.

Colours are placed to give a graded look with broken merging of colour.

Inspired by yat-ng's Instagram photography, this pixelated version is created using one module coloured three ways to maintain an equal split of product. Rotating the modules avoids creating longer lines of single colour.

The final option on this post is the only one that involves cutting tiles. One colour remains whole, the other two are cut diagonally to create a strong 3D effect - ideal for high-impact areas!

Stronger colours a used in this post to portray the variety of ways that we can portray three different products in equal proportions. The end results are very interesting if the finishes are altered. For example, keep colours close but alter the texture. Another post could follow on this theme..!
