As we blogged about our trips this year to London Design Festival here and here, we thought it would also be cool to show you how we process the information shown.

Arriving in London, visiting Design Junction

We have a few mood boards in our studio, either magnetic or felted, to easily change up what we want to display. One of these is dedicated to current trends and is reworked after visiting trade fairs and events, such as the London Design Festival.

Visiting trade fairs, you are inundated with ephemera and marketing materials for a whole host of varying companies. Three of us from the design team went to London Design Festival and when we got back, put all of our collective materials together to begin sorting through.

We used post its to highlight certain trends we were seeing and started to create linking themes for the mood board

You can see it starting to take form and the continuation from one trend to another.

The end result! We use this board as a resource during new product development as well as how to pair current products together in a contemporary way. It'll stay like this for a few months until we visit some more trade fairs and do this process again.

The main trends we saw were:

Pantone Colours of The Year 2016Metallics, Monochrome, Plant Life, Illustrations, Flecks and Simple Shapes
