London Design Festival 2022
We were extremely excited to visit the iconic London Design Festival this year in the hope to be inspired by our findings there. New talented designers and makers radiated throughout London and it was a celebration of all innovative products in design. Below I have highlighted the key points, including exciting colour trends we spotted on our visit to Vitra.
Surface Matter, Shoreditch, London
Surface Matter is an innovative, experimental material studio, focusing on all things sustainable and pushing the boundaries of materialism. We visited their open studio at LDF which had a range of material samples that carried eco friendly properties. The images below demonstrate a small portion of the material samples on display.
Material Matters, Oxo Tower London
We were excited by the collective of ground-breaking brands and designers at Material Matters 2022 fair. We were transported into a world of material innovation from a variety of disciplines in design.
Zena Holloway
Our top pick for the most inspiring maker is Zena Holloway, Zena is an award winning underwater photographer and a bio-designer creating organic naturally dyed bio-based products. Specifically wheatgrass root found in the river Dour. We loved how her process was completely eco friendly, it was grown organically and the products made are versatile and forward thinking.
doublew.design
Our next inspiring designer at Material Matters is Weronika Wojnarowicz, an inspiring and award winning product designer. Weronika creates new biomaterials and the cork project at Material Matter's caught our eye. The material is created by mixing cork granules and dust with potato starch or resin.
Vitra., Tramshed, London
The new Vitra showroom located in Shoreditch, London was a stop not to be missed. The once historical East London Tramway is now an exceptional blend between the old and new. The building celebrated colour, texture and interior design trends across three floors.
Key colour trends at Vitra.
We are always looking out for the latest colour trends to influence our products and inspire our colour pallet.
Mint and Spicy Orange
On our visit to Vitra we came across a striking pairing of two colours - Glacial Mint and Spicy Orange. The colours paired together add a playful, refreshing element to the showroom space that is in line with Pantone A/W 23 colours.
The image below shows a suggestion of colours you can pair together with orange and mint. Our ranges here at Burmatex can provide you with that A/W 23 accent colour to brighten your interior space. Pictured below is a demonstration of how you can add a pop of colour to compliment your darker carpet tiles, for colour reference we have used Tivoli (Cali Coral and Miami Aqua) Osaka (Lantern) and Rainfall (Brick) products.
Cobalt Blue
Another group of key colours we spotted at Vitra was Cobalt blue, toffee browns and soft stone colours. We found the colours in the textured accessories, office furniture and curtains. We found the meeting room at Vitra visually stunning, the room is partitioned by a strong pigmented blue curtain that looped around the board room style desk, an image of this is below. The strong blue colour was carried across into vases and ceramics which complimented the softer stone colour running through the contemporary office furniture. We can recommend shades Ionian Blue and Crete Blue from our Tivoli products for a statement blue.
We were so inspired by the talent and trends we spotted at LDF and look forward to visiting again next year!
