OUR TOP 5 DESIGN ITEMS | INSPIRED BY THE DESIGN MUSEUM
In this post we are detailing our top 5 design items, as inspired by a recent visit to the Design Museum.
The permanent exhibition; Designer Maker User was created by Morag Myerscough and features a crowd-sourced wall. Every item on the design wall was chosen from the Design Museum's archive by social media users. With the aim to break down the barrier between user and designer, each item is accompanied by a blurb as to why it is one of the best modern designs; a thing that people couldn't live without. The way in which the objects were chosen has resulted in an eclectic and interesting mix of designs from throughout the years.
It also got us thinking… what would we put up on the wall?
"We are surrounded by objects. Millions of them fill our homes, our workplaces and the environment around us. Some objects are functional and practical, while others are decorative and sculptural. Whether we use them every day or just a few times in our lives, they are important because of the personal connection we have with them."
The Post It
Created in America in 1979, this is an everyday object that is not only practical in a million tiny ways but also quite joyful to use! Removable, modular, brightly coloured, non-sticky, playful and inexpensive. Post it’s make life a little bit easier and a lot more colourful.
This wall of post it’s was created in a New York subway station after the 2016 elections to inject a little happiness into the city.
Toothbrushes
The humble toothbrush; useful, simple and a definite necessity for every person all over the world. Such a simple object, which we take for granted can bring such pleasure on a morning, evening and even mid-day if you’re feeling particularly hygienic. Oh what would we do without a toothbrush when you’re hungover, just been sick or have a hot date! It is a saddening fact that not every person in the world has access to this simple, satisfying object… Free toothbrushes for everybody!!
We also have to mentioned dental floss here as well - known to reduce the risk of heart disease, as well as the risk of halitosis (!)

Diary
Where would forgetful people be without a diary? As well as being very useful for organisation, it is a great recorder for happy memories, life events and travels. A true recording of a personal journey through life.

Coat Hangers
The coat hanger – what would life be like without them? Just piles of clothes everywhere? Or drawers full of un-aired, crumpled, folded up items..
We love that they have evolved into the non-slide versions – even though the wooden ones are more beautiful to look at!
Nokia E71
The first phone we remember being able to access the internet on, with a qwerty keyboard to boot! This felt revolutionary (and pretty much was) for 2008
Have you visited the Design Museum? What would you put on the wall?
