TONY CRAGG: A RARE CATEGORY OF OBJECTS
A UNIQUE PERSPECTIVE
This week I visited the exhibition ‘TONY CRAGG: A RARE CATEGORY OF OBJECTS’ which will be on display at Yorkshire Sculpture Park until 3 September 2017. The way the different materials had been put together fascinated me and the structures drew me in for a closer look. I wanted to share (as titled in the post) my unique perspective on the exhibition through a collection of visual collages of a few of my favourite structures. The combination of far away and close up imagery inspired me to think about the use of contrasting scale in design. Even by just looking at an object from different angles can create interesting visual references to compare and contrast. It is often difficult to find inspiration when designing for flat surfaces as we do for floor design, but by taking the time to consider 3D works of art, the mind can be opened up to new lines of inspiration.
‘A Rare Category of Objects gives an insight into the extraordinary career of Tony Cragg and his fascination with using different materials to bring unique ideas to life. Sharing new and recent work, alongside key historic sculptures, the exhibition traces the evolution of Cragg’s practice and his pioneering mastery of materials.’
